Application example
In packaging machines, products are packaged using printed foil. To ensure that the foil can be cut exactly to the required size, a sensor must reliably detect the designated printed mark and trigger the cutting process with precision.
Packaging machines work at very high process speeds. The cutting process must therefore be very precisely timed. Deviations of just a few microseconds can lead to unclean cuts, material waste and therefore downtime. Consequently, the sensor used must operate very quickly and reproducibly – regardless of the printing ink, foil material or ambient light.
Contrast sensors such as the DTECT® Presence FT 25-RGB detect printed marks with a switching frequency of up to 25,000 Hz and a response time of just 20 microseconds. Thanks to the highly dynamic signal evaluation, the sensor detects the printed mark at exactly the right position and transmits the signal to the machine control system without delay. This enables precise and repeatable cutting results to be achieved even at the highest speeds.
