Detecting stickers on foil rolls

Titelbild

The Task

Foil is processed on coils in a winding machine. The transitions between two rolls of foil are secured using adhesive tape (stickers) so that the web continues to run continuously. However, these transitions must not be processed further in downstream steps, as they can impair product quality or cause faults. This is why the adhesive strips on the foil must be reliably detected and ejected. A sensor can be used to perform this task.

The Challenge

Both the foil and the adhesive strip can come in a variety of colors and shades. In addition, the foil itself may exhibit slight color gradients or fluctuations.
The sensor must therefore be able to reliably distinguish between "normal foil" and "adhesive tape" – without switching incorrectly due to color variations within the foil.

Our Solution

The DTECT® Color FT 55-CM is taught to detect the desired reference state in BestFit mode. This intelligent mode automatically assigns the currently measured colors to the taught-in color profile. This enables the color sensor to reliably detect the adhesive strip on the foil, even if the foil has slight color deviations or gradients. The integrated easy-to-use display also enables quick and uncomplicated teach-in directly at the machine.

Your Advantages

  • Precise detection of the adhesive strip thanks to the outstanding color resolution of the FT 55-CM
  • Easy commissioning with the convenient teach-in via the integrated display
  • High process reliability even with color variations within the foil ensured by the intelligent BestFit mode
